SPECIAL TOPIC SUMMER WORKSHOP
Pit and Saggar Fired Pottery with Janice Strawder
This special topic workshop will focus on the primitive firing techniques of Pit and Saggar Firing. Students will create clayworks through handbuilding or wheel throwing techniques.
Works will be coated with a clay-based slip, burnished with a stone or soft cloth, and fired using the primitive methods. Students will actively participate in the firings!
Instruction will be through ZOOM at 11am each Saturday, with access to the studio from 1-4 pm, observing Covid-19 protocol, and for gathering outside to work on pot surfaces.

Raku Beginners Welcome: no experience necessary
Experience first hand the fast firing process of RAKU. Participants will be guided through the process of glazing, kiln loading, firing, and post-reduction cooling. Your beautiful lustrous pottery will be ready to take home that day. Bring 3-5 bisque pieces with you. An assortment of glazes will be available for your use at the ALAC studio.

NEW - Pottery Wheel Techniques with Janice Strawder
Students will be guided through a series of pottery wheel projects that will address basic throwing techniques to help build skills. Projects will focus on particular forms, to include a variety of surface treatments. Examples and discussions reference contemporary as well as historic pottery. A syllabus will be provided along with suggestion for setting up your workspace. Glaze sessions for using our studio glazes, as well as one-on-one wheel appointment will be made available with regard to social distancing.

Ceramics with Janice Strawder
Students will be guided through a series of clay projects that will address basic hand-building techniques. Included will be the physical manipulation of the clay, such as darting, stretching, and carving, surface decorating with brushwork and color, and finish glazing techniques. These projects will offer options, and enough flexibility for you to express your own unique vision. A syllabus will be provided along with suggestion for setting up your workspace. Glaze sessions for using our studio glazes will be available by appointment with regard to social distancing.
