Ceramics Sampler

Class Description: Curious about pottery and ceramics? Here is your chance to sample wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing while getting to know several of our Ceramics instructors. This class is meant for beginners and will take you step by step through the process of making pottery and finishing your piece with a glaze. Each session will be taught by one of our regular Ceramics instructors so you will get three different perspectives and approaches in this class. All materials included.

About the Instructors:

Nathan was raised in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Maine College of Art, in Portland, Maine. He has taught numerous classes and workshops on functional pottery at institutions such as The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA, Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, Michigan and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, ME. Nathan is currently a long-term Resident and Zeldin Fellow at The Clay Studio.

About the Instructors cont.:

Janice received her MFA in Ceramics from Louisiana State University, and her BFA from Wichita State University, Kansas. She spent three years as Artist-in-Residence at the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center in Bellaire, Florida, then moved to Philadelphia in 1994 for an Artist Residency at The Clay Studio, where she continues to teach. Janice has been instrumental in bringing national ceramic exhibits to the greater Philadelphia area and has worked as curator and special projects coordinator for several national ceramic exhibitions and conferences. Janice is currently an instructor at The Clay Studio's School.

Deborah graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Art in 1976, focusing on Sculpture. She has over 30 years of experience as a teaching artist and had been an adjunct professor for eight years at Rutgers University and two community colleges in NJ. She currently teaches at The Clay Studio and 4 other art centers in PA and NJ. Her functional pottery is sold in galleries and shows throughout the area.
