Appalachian Clogging

(16 - adult)

Instructor: Peggy Leiby

Learn Appalachian Clogging, percussive dancing to old time music. A country cousin to tap dance, though stylistically quite different, it is a uniquely American dance form that emerged from a melting pot of influences Celtic, African and Cherokee. Three good reasons to clog: You become the rhythm section on the dance floor, you can't help but smile while dancing, and it’s great exercise. Hard soled shoes that slide or low-heeled tap shoes are recommended.

Saturdays 1pm - 2pm

Cost: $8 per class for 3+ classes (or $10 single class)

Nia Dance Technique is a tool for accessing the universal human need to move. Through using a blend of dance, martial-arts, mind-body practices, we will use this highly adaptable practice to explore alignment, sustain energy, challenge our cardiovascular training, and most of all, experience deeply the sensations of movement to increase the pleasure and joy of living in a human body. It is fun and sweaty, done to soulful world music which will take you on a beautiful journey within your home for life: your body. Nia is generally done barefoot, but if injury or comfort requires a student to wear shoes, please be sure that they are clean indoor shoes.

Tango (American Style)

(16 - adult)
Instructors: Peggy Leiby and Ret Turner

This series started in January-- intermediate level dancers can join us. The American style tango (AKA social tango) is pretty much the original tango as it was danced in Argentina a century ago. It is more accessible (easier to learn) then the present day Argentine Tango. It's a wonderfully fun and creative dance. We'll start with the basics as needed before teaching lots of interesting flourishes and moves.
