2019-2020 Theater Classes & Workshops

Please pre-register! Registration deadline for all classes is 3 business days prior to the first class. After that, there will be a $20 late administration fee added to the cost of the class. 

Please note that some classes are run by third party vendors who do their own registration. Details are provided next to the class information. Any material fees are to be paid to the teacher on the first day of class.

Staging Silverstein

Ages 6-10
Instructor: Mariangela Saavedra

This class is about working with alternative texts, like poems, songs and popular stories to present them in a theatrical way while still conveying the prime message or intent of the original text. We will start by working with readings, using different voices and characterizations. We will use several  poems by Shel Silverstein and some popular song lyrics as our scripts. Then Students will work on blocking, division of text and characterizations for presentation in a showcase at the end of the 8 week class session. This class will exercise staging skills, acting skills, script interpretation skills and overall performance skills, while being fun and challenging for young performers.

Improv & Scene Study

Ages 10-17
Instructor: Mariangela Saavedra

Learn the basic structure and “rules” of Improv and Scene Study. Games like "What are you doing?", "Three Entrances" and "Party Quirks" are just a few of the Games we will explore and play.  Then we will move onto more difficult Improv scenes, and complex Improv Games. Fun and engaging, these improv exercises will encourage creativity, as we use the skills developed through these games to work on scenes with scripted text for performance at the end of the session. Students will develop strong acting and stage presence skills, playing to the strengths of each individual participant. The session will end with a showcase for families and friends, that will include demonstrations of our favorite games, and performances of our best scenes worked on during the session.

Stage Makeup Workshops - Oct. 2019

October 19, 2019 - Intro to Stage Makeup
Ages 9+

Deadline to Register: Monday, October 14, 2019

Student make up artists  will learn all the beginning basic techniques for stage and special effects make-up in a fun an interactive workshop , that will culminate with the students being able to successfully execute a make up design of their very own on themselves by the end of the workshop. The class will end with us taking pictures in a Green Screen Photo Booth that will be emailed to the participants . Just in time for Halloween fun, participants get to keep their “starter kit” of makeup that includes items used in class along with supplies they can use to practice other techniques they learned during the session. Materials Fee includes the starter kit of stage make-up, and the case to keep it all in!

October 26, 2019 - Zombies, Ghosts and Magical Creatures
Ages 9+

Deadline to Register: Monday, October 21, 2019

Student make up artists will learn techniques for doing stage makeup with a focus on executing designs for Zombies, Ghosts, Wizards, Witches and Magical Creatures, in this interactive workshop.  Students will be given additional items to use with their starter kit of make-up, to successfully create and execute a make up design of their own based on the theme, by the end of the workshop. The class will end with us taking pictures of our executed designs in a Green Screen Photo Booth that will be emailed to the participants and their families. Let's Make a MOVIE! A Short Film in a Day Workshop

Ages 10+

Screening of Movie Trailer at 4:45pm    
$50 per student

Everyone is the star when they write and create their own short film from scratch! Working with award winning short filmmakers from CCP Films, students will learn by doing and use story boards to write, rehearse, and film an original short film all in one day! This may include music elements, green screen special effects, fun costumes, props and anything else their imaginations can come up with that we can rehearse, film and then edit a trailer for in 5 hours! The finished short film will be shared with families two weeks following the workshop after it has gone through "post production" where finishing touches, music and sound will be added. **Light snacks will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch to eat during the day. Trailer screening for family and friends will be at 4:45pm in the Allens Lane Theater!
