Artist Submission Guidelines for Gallery Exhibitions

The Carolyn and Howard Alber Gallery

The Carolyn and Howard Alber Gallery at Allens Lane Art Center has slots available for each season and encourages area artists to submit materials for consideration for an exhibition. Our gallery committee reviews all submissions and chooses exhibits for the coming season. If accepted, artists may be asked to exhibit in either a group show or a solo exhibition at the discretion of the center. There are no fees to submit materials for review. The review process may take several weeks. The gallery welcomes artists working in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, ceramic, fiber, photography, collage and other craft disciplines.

For accepted artists:

Exhibitions are usually at least one month in length (may be shorter or longer depending on the demands of the season).

The center promotes the exhibitions on our website, social media and in our monthly email newsletters.

The center requests a 30% commission for all sales of work within the exhibition.

The center hosts a cocktail reception for each exhibition. Exhibiting artists are given a number of free complimentary tickets for the reception for their friends, family and collectors.

The exhibitions are free and open to the public for the duration of the exhibition.

The center does not pay for shipping of the works either to or from the artist or buyer.

To be considered for an exhibition, interested artists can submit their work in a number of ways.  Artists can submit: 10 - 15 slides, digital images on CD or thumb drive, photographs, or links to websites or other sites containing images of the artists' work.

Images submitted must be representative of the work intended for exhibition. Works should be properly identified with title, date (year), medium and dimensions.

Additional materials may also be submitted but are not required: Artist's Resume, Artist's Statement and/or Additional Supplemental Materials.

Please enclose a SASE if you want your materials returned.

Deadline: January 1st OF EACH YEAR. You must include a self-address stamped envelope for the return of your materials. Materials submitted without this envelope will not be returned. If a curated show is proposed, curator must submit samples from all artists in the exhibition, a show synopsis, and a curators Bio/CV. Materials will not be returned until September. Decisions are not based on when materials are received (i.e. early submissions are not given priority). Materials should be mailed or dropped off to: The Carolyn and Howard Alber Gallery

Leiberman Satellite Gallery at Settlement Music School (Germantown)

Exhibition Opportunity for Young and/or Emerging Artists or Arts Educators

Allens Lane Art Center, in collaboration with Settlement Music School (Germantown Campus), arranges visual art exhibitions in the Music School’s performance space. The exhibitions will are organized by Allens Lane Art Center’s Gallery Committee and the Satellite Gallery Manager and will oversee the installation and promotion of 1 month exhibitions (possibly longer) that will focus on young and emerging artists from our area. This is a great opportunity for young, unrepresented artists. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis (no deadline). This exhibition opportunity is for 2-D work only. Each exhibition will have a reception that will align with Settlement Music Schools performances in the space.

Young/Emerging Artists:
Artists who are at least 18+ years old and are just starting their career will have an opportunity to apply for an exhibition of their work in this new space.

Arts Educators:
If you are a high school arts teacher (or equivalent) within the Philadelphia area and are looking for an opportunity for an art exhibition for your class, we would encourage you to apply. The space can accommodate up to 15 artists (depending on the size of the work). All work must be ready to hang either framed or some other hanging device. 2D work only. 36” x 36” maximum dimension. No nudes or offensive subject matter.
