Allens Lane Art Center Summer Art Camp is an interactive and fun experience for campers aged 5-13. Following our mission of making the arts accessible to our entire community Campers experience a variety of creative outlets (drawing, painting, set design and construction, acting, vocal coaching, ceramics and more!) as well as outdoor sports and play activities in a clean and safe environment.
During Summer Art Camp Campers will not only discover their creative potential but will learn how to successfully show their creativity through our Mid and End of Camp Art To-Go Drive Through Exhibition’s as well as our End of Camp production. Students will not only be the stars of these shows but will also be involved in all levels of the creative process. Including curating the exhibitions and creating the sets, costumes and props for our end of year show.
Physical Camp Activities
Each week campers spend time in our art studios, dance studios and theater as they learn from our team of qualified professionals. Allens Lane's Summer Art Camp employs teaching artists and counselors in a wide variety of artistic disciplines - many of which return year after year. In addition, we believe that it is just as important to exercise the mind as it is the body, so we make sure to take advantage of our unique seven-acre Fairmount Park campus. Campers spend time outside enjoying our open fields, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts.
(Art Exhibits, Class Demonstrations and Plays)
Our two Camp Productions for the parents will take place at the end of the 4th week and during the 8th week of camp.
Covid-19 Agreement: All Parents/Guardians of campers must sign off on our Covid-19 agreement to have their registration submitted to Allens Lane. Copies of this agreement can be viewed in the Covid Safety section of our website.
Vaccinations: ALL Campers, Faculty and Staff ages 5+ must be fully vaccinated to participate in Summer Art Camp. Please be advised that you are not considered fully vaccinated until two weeks after your second shot (for two shot vaccinations like Pfizer and Moderna) or two weeks after your single shot vaccination (Johnson & Johnson).
*At this time, we are continuing to carefully monitor the Covid-19 situation as we develop our policies for Summer Camp 2022. We follow all CDC, PA State and City of Philadelphia Covid-19 guidelines, rules and regulations. You can find last year's policy here
"My daughter loves Allens Lane Summer Art Camp and will not go anywhere else. We plan our summer vacations around camp so that she can attend at least 4 weeks. She's already asking if she can return next summer." - Amy Orvec
"Our camp experience last year (somewhere else) was not so great. This year, Kelly was in absolute heaven! She was up early and ready to go every morning (that never happens). Now she won't stop singing, dancing, painting or drawing! Worth every dime! Money well spent!" - Andrea Pitts
"Our son blossomed with his love of singing and dancing under the wonderful staff at Allens Lane's Summer Art Camp." - Crystal Bianchi
"My daughter was exposed to such a wide variety of arts through perfomances, classes and trips. That combined with traditional camp activities such as the outdoor playground and games makes the Allens Lane Camp so unique." - Suzanne Larito
Meet Our Camp Director, Ms. A
A love of the arts has always played an important role in Sherry Ashton’s life. She started her professional career in the performing arts as a dancer and went on to become an actor, teacher and choreographer. She’s had principal parts in several movies, toured internationally with a dance revue and did a short national tour with a children's theater ensemble. She has belonged to several dance and theater companies, the most notable being the 127th Street Repertoire in New York City. She taught classes for and directed several Summer Arts Enrichment Programs, along with the ongoing year-long programs. Mrs. A has a Bachelor of Art degree in Dance and a Masters in Information Science.
All campers are grouped by age, with a leadership team of two counselors per group (during Covid, we strive for a ratio of 1 counselor for every 5 campers). All camp staff are selected for their maturity, responsibility, experience and sensitive understanding of children. Art, ceramics, dance and drama are taught by professionals. Many teach classes at Allens Lane Art Center throughout the year. Red Cross certified instructors supervise swimming activities. Additionally, all counselors attend a mandatory CPR class (taught by the Red Cross).
The Counselor-In-Training program for teens entering 9th through 12th grade has always been a special part of our camp.
Allens Lane Art Center invites applications for CIT, Junior and Senior Counselors each year for our Summer Art Camp.
